10 Insider Tips for Warrior Welcome

1. Visit the Welcome Table

Check in at the Orientation Welcome Table on Kerrwood Lawn after you move in. Get your Westmont ID card photo taken there. It will immortalize you in the Westmont system, so prepare as you wish.

2. Introduce yourself to new people

Take advantage of this unique and special time to get to know people, and remember that everyone is just as nervous and eager to make friends as you are.

3. Attend key sessions

In the Orientation calendar on the Westmont portal, take note of the all-student sessions that feature vital information for new students that you won't want to miss.

4. Buy your books now

Buy your books from the bookstore now so you can pick them up at your mailbox before classes start so you'll be ready to go!

5. Ask questions

When meeting with your small group, walking around campus, or attending a session, ask away! We guarantee you that most new students around you are wondering the same things.

6. Let your family and friends help you

Let your guests help you unpack, and expect some strong emotions to emerge. Your transition to college is a process for them, too, and it's best to do it together.

7. Label all your belongings

When you arrive, volunteers will help you carry your stuff from your vehicle to your room. Clearly labeling all your items will result in a smooth and efficient move-in.

8. Coordinate with your roommate/s on who's bringing what

Check in with your new roommate/s to coordinate who, if anyone, is bringing a mini-fridge, electric tea kettle, decorations, etc., so you can avoid multiples of these items.

9. Dress cool and comfortable

The weather during Orientation tends to be hot, so dress cool and comfortable. Keep in mind that most Westmont buildings lack air-conditioning. You'll likely meet outdoors with your small group, so wear comfortable shoes and casual clothes.

10. Take time to pause

Take time to pause and rest amidst all the craziness. Even finding 10-15 minutes (go on a walk, pray, read a Psalm!) to take everything in can be really helpful!
